A university student is finding out that studying hard may not be beneficial in the long run.

A German University has decided to bring a lawsuit against a former student, 22 year old, who graduated extremely early, completing curriculum courses in 3 semesters versus the typical 11 semesters that it takes to successfully finish.

Taking 60 exams in less than 2 years, Marcel graduated in late summer 2011 and now the school is pushing for nearly $4,000 in fees for the remaining months of 2011.

With university tuition due to increase by 5% by the fall of 2012, students and paying parents are big advocates for early graduation, however schools are less optimistic about overachieving grads.

In a study done by Santa Clara University, looking back over the years from 2004-2007, it was discovered that 20% graduated early. While students can have smaller student loans and get a head start with internships and jobs, the schools lose money in budgets that are based on annual tuition income.
