Punk rockers Pussy Riot give an irreverent performance.

Three members of the activist group are facing prison sentences after taking to the altar of Russia's main cathedral in February.

But other members of the group say they'll continue to protest the establishment despite the risks.

One nicknamed "Mother" says the women come from different professions and walks of life.

"For me, to put a balaclava on, it is... There is a fitting English word for this - "honour". Pride has an ambiguous meaning in Russian, but it's an honour."

Pussy Riot has about 10 to 20 members at any given time and no fixed line-up.

Remaining anonymous protects them from persecution and also prevents their identities from taking centre stage.

This woman says they are all aware of the danger and are ready to face the consequences.

"Mother" urges other women to don balaclavas and stage their own riots.

The three group members on trial are expected to receive their verdict Friday.

Prosecutors are asking for three years in prison for hooliganism motivated by religious hatred.
