Energy prices in the UK have increased by twenty per cent in 2011 as wholesale of costs of fuels have gone up.

This has forced an increasing number of homes into fuel poverty, which is currently defined as spending more than ten per cent of household income on fuel.

The number of homes technically in fuel poverty has gone up almost fivefold in the past eight years.

Al Jazeera's Laurence Lee reports from Newcastle, the UK's fuel poverty capital.
