Fires erupted near the Getty Center in Los Angeles on Friday (September 14), threatening homes in the upmarket Bel Air neighbourhood.
Wildfire burned at least two acres (0.8 hectares) an area close to homes.
Officials feared the blaze could spread quickly in high temperatures and dry conditions.
Crews used helicopters and airplanes to dump thousands of gallons of water on the flames which local media said had now been brought under control.
The cause of the blaze is still unknown.
