Number 7 - Cockroaches can hold their breath for approximately 40 minutes while an average person can hold it only for a maximum of 2 minutes.

Number 6 - They are one of the oldest creatures on this planet, originating nearly 300 million years ago.

Number 5 - According to Discovery channel, a cockroach can last for a week without its head. Unbelievably, the reason it ultimately dies is due to thirst as it can't drink water.

Number 4 - You'll be surprised to know all the stuff that roaches can eat. PBS notes that they are even known to eat soap, paper, cigarette butts, hair and feces.

Number 3 - There are nearly 5000 species of cockroaches around the world. Who would have thought?

Number 2 - The Discovery channel says that crushed roaches can help alleviate pain if applied to a wound. But kids please don't try this at home!

Number 1 - Known to survive in tough conditions, a cockroach would not drown in water for 10-15 minutes.
