Yuen Chan marvels at the numbers of parents and students in Hong Kong who joined this summer’s protests against the introduction of Beijing’s curriculum of “patriotic education” about communist China.
“I had never seen so many baby buggies at a demonstration,” says the university professor referring to a major rally held in July. “This has touched a nerve. Hong Kong people feel a need to defend the values that are Hong Kong’s,” she adds at another event this month where a barrister had just collapsed after three days of fasting.
