This new Pepsi drink reportedly helps to cut fat in the body.

Imagine being able to eat cake, pizza, fried, fatty foods and not having to worry about getting fat. Sounds too good to be true, right?

A new commercial in Japan is leading some to believe it could be true. Pepsi’s Japanese partner, Suntory Holdings Limited, is claiming their new soda, Pepsi Special, can reduce the absorption of fat in your body.

The drink will contain “indigestible dextrin” which you may know as dietary fiber. The synthetic fiber is said to help reduce the amount of fat the body absorbs,, but according to CNN health expert Dr. Melina Jampolis, “adding synthetic fibers to unhealthy foods and drink is like putting lipstick on a pig.” The unhealthy choice is still unhealthy.

According to a Gallup poll, nearly half of Americans drink at least one soda per day and among them, the average daily intake is 2.6 glasses. Studies have shown that large amounts of sugary drinks can lead to many health problems, such as obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure. Critics say adding fiber to a soft drink made from “caffeine, caramel coloring, phosphoric acid, sugar, and high fructose corn syrup doesn’t make it healthy.”

Although the Japanese government has backed the claim, the USFDA has not and reports say that it will be surprising if the beverage is allowed to be marketed in the US.
