NHL's 82-day lockout is the third lockout for the NHL in the past 20 years. It all started when owners wanted to reduce the player's share of hockey-related revenue by 12 percent.
Earlier this week, representatives from the NHLPA decided to sit down with the league in order to come up with an agreement. After three days of negotiations, NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr received a proposal he assumed would end the lockout.
Fehr confidently took the podium in front of eager fans and media to announce he was optimistic about the proposal believing that they had reached a "complete agreement" on actual dollars. While he was addressing the crowd, his brother, NHLPA special counsel Steve Fehr, got a call saying the deal was rejected causing Donald Fehr to eat his words moments of the announcement.
There were no further plans for negotiations putting the 2012-2013 NHL season in danger of being cancelled.
