I am American-born, now have dual nationalities, and live outside Paris, France in the Seine-Saint-Denis département. This 170 bus runs on an alternative to diesel or gasoline fuel combustion. I traveled between the city of Aubervilliers, which still has quite a bit of industry, and Saint-Denis, where I live. I'd been to a "centre de santé," a community health center, where a variety of services may be obtained at a very reasonable price. This day, I had a medical pedicure, which cost me 13 euros 20 eurocents out of pocket -- well worth it.
The grey skies are typical of the Greater Paris ("Ile-de-France") region, and as this is December, it's cold, but snow is rare here, usually. A visit to Paris costs less in January, generally, and you can take advantage of the sales then, also, as long as you don't mind the short days and cold weather. It's great for doing "indoor" things. Just bring warm, comfortable, waterproof footwear with lots of ankle support. Winters are incredibly mild here compared to what I knew in New York and Ohio in the United States!
Seine-Saint-Denis is the most populous départment in Ile-de-France. Some of the industries I pass here on this ride are plastics, meat processing, construction and works, and recycling. The Canal Saint-Denis is nearby, and the River Seine is not far away. Aubervilliers is becoming popular and desireable to live in, which is something I would never had thought possible when I moved to France in 1994! The proximity to Paris and at least two airports, in addition to an extensive train and highway network, makes it a practical location, if not a very scenic one.
