The eight-hour hartal in the capital called by Islamist and like-minded parties ended with some incidents of detention and vandalism on Thursday.
On the other hand, the dawn-to-dusk hartal is progressing in the rest of the country excluding Rangpur City Corporation areas where voting of the maiden city corporation is underway since 8:00 in the morning.
At least 31 people were picked up and four buses were ransacked in the capital while six pro-hartal activists were detained and one vehicle was torched across the country.
The incidents of minor pickets were reported from Chittagong and Sylhet while the shutdown is going on peacefully on the other parts of the country.
The major points of the city--Paltan, Motijheel, Farmgate, Jatiya Press Club and High Court areas--were devoid of pickets, report our correspondents covering the hartal.
