Turkey and all the trimmings for these troops stationed in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Afghan generals along with their NATO colleagues carved meats and served Christmas lunch to soldiers at Kabul international airport where the camp is based.
For some, the traditional food and family feel was uplifting.

"Christmas in Afghanistan is amazing. The countries have come together and we have joined to celebrate this Christmas day this season."
Others however still found themselves longing for home.

" Christmas is a time where people get together and they share, and we eat good food, so it's not as bad as seems. But I certainly do wish I was home with my family."
The United States and its NATO allies are gradually withdrawing from Afghanistan.
They will hand over security responsibilities to Afghan forces by 2014, more than a decade after the U.S.-led invasion.
