But, one marriage in Saudi Arabia seems to have taken things too far.

A 90-year-old man reportedly wed a 15-year-old girl in exchange for a hefty dowry. After the nuptials, the young girl locked her husband out of their bedroom for two straight days before escaping the residence, fleeing back to her parent’s home.

The groom claims that his marriage is legal, citing that he paid $17,500 as dowry to marry the teenage girl. He promises to sue the parents if they do not return his wife or the dowry.

Humans rights officials have urged authorities to intervene immediately to save the girl. Social media activists are in an uproar, criticizing the young wife’s parents for allowing the marriage to take place.

In 2009, another elderly man married a much younger bride. The 112-year-old male made a 17-year-old girl his wife. Both wife and husband were from the same village in Somalia.

The elderly male claimed that he had waited for the young girl to grow up so he could marry her. Not surprisingly, many people had concerns regarding the major age difference.
