The Australian heat index gets a new shade due to the extremely hot temperatures.
Australia is a beautiful country with numerous beaches and scenic outdoors.
However residents and visitors must battle the increasingly hot outdoor temperatures in some areas.
It is so hot in some territories that the Australian bureau of meteorology was forced to add a brand new color to their heat index.
An official of the bureau states “The scale has just been increased and I would anticipate it is because the forecast coming from the bureau's model is showing temperatures in excess of 50 degrees Celsius.”
Summer temperatures can easily reach more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The previous record was 123 degrees Fahrenheit which was recorded in 1960 in southern Australia.
With the severe heat, comes a dire consequence. Australia frequently battles bushfires due to the hot climate. New South Wales recently encountered one of the 'highest-risk fire days' in the area’s history.
Some locations were labeled with “catastrophic” fire conditions. More than 100 wildfires plagued the southeast end of the country; 20 of which were said to be ‘out of control’.
