On September 25, 2012, Dr. Denis Mukwege of the Panzi Hospital in Democratic Republic of Congo spoke at a high level panel organized at the 67th U.N. General Assembly by The United Kingdom Mission to the United Nations, UN Women, the Nobel Women's Initiative, the Office of the Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict and The International Campaign to Stop Rape and Gender Violence in Conflict.

The panel titled "Preventing sexual and gender based crimes in conflict and securing justice for survivors" took place in Conference Room 6, North Lawn Building, UN Headquarters, New York.

"I would have liked to also say, 'I have the honour of being part of the international community that you represent here,' but I cannot say that. How can I say this to you - representatives of the international community - when the international community has shown fear and a lack of courage during these 16 years in the Democratic Republic of the Congo?"
