A Lithuanian photographer has managed to create an incredibly lifelike image of the famous artist Vincent van Gogh which he revealed to the cameras on Thursday (January 17).

The image was created using a look-a-like friend, some appropriate costume and digital tickery.

The resulant image is remarkably similar to Van Gogh's 1889 self-portrait depicting himself with a hard face, ginger beard and green-rimmed eyes.

Lithuanian photographer Tadas Černiauskas came up with the idea on a complete whim.

"A few weeks ago I met a red-haired friend who reminded me of Vincent Van Gogh. I decided to do his portrait, he liked the idea, and after the session, and the day's post-production work on the computer this photo has been born, which, I think, reflects how the well-known painter could look now," he said.

Van Gogh painted the portrait in September 1889 during his year-long stay at the psychiatric hospital at Saint Remy. It was during this time he produced many of his most iconic works.
