STORY: Aero India, one of Asia's biggest defense and aerospace shows took off in Bangalore on Wednesday with global equipment and aircraft makers descending on the venue, looking for a share of India's planned $100 billion defense spend over the next decade.

India, the world's biggest arms importer in recent years, plans the massive spends to upgrade its largely Soviet-era military equipment as it looks to keep pace with neighbor and Asian rival China

The five-day event will feature prominent international manufacturers such as French aircraft makers Dassault's Rafale and United Aircraft Corp, among others.

Dassault Aviation is showcasing three planes which will try and lure the Indian officials and decision makers over the next five days.

Earlier in 2012 Rafale had emerged as preferred bidder in a $15 billion contest to supply India with 126 warplanes, lifting hopes for a sale that would boost France's national pride and restore the luster of its aviation sector.
