In Port Jefferson, New York --- they're digging themselves out after a winter storm dumped nearly two feet of snow.
SOUNDBITE: Jim Iberger, resident, saying:
"It's... a lot of drifts... Yeah, it's a lot of snow!"
Some used snow blowers while others turned to plows to carve out paths in the knee deep snow and professionals had this advice for locals --- stay indoors.
SOUNDBITE: Manny Teixeira, snow plow driver saying:
"They're all over, the stranded cars... I seen cars on fire, I seen them upside down... there's cars on 347 and it's just... people shouldn't be out. They're all over the roads. They should stay home."
SOUNDBITE: Unidentified driver saying:
"It's horrible. Absolutely horrible out there. We'll be plowing out till Monday. Hopefully it'll be 50-degrees on Monday, we'll be melting. There's no place to put the snow."
In some states along the East Coast, major roads have been closed to only emergency vehicles and authorities are recommending people not venture out until the storm passes on Sunday.
