Me playing the organ at St Cuthbert's Church in Carlisle city centre.

As an enthusiast of Compton organs, I am keen to not only play instruments built from scratch by Compton but also those by other builders which were rebuilt and St Cuthbert's contains a good example of this.

The organ here today was originally built in 1904 by Norman & Beard where it replaced an earlier instrument. It was rebuilt and enlarged in 1933 by the John Compton Organ Company Ltd. During this rebuild, the choir division was moved from the north chancel and installed in its own enclosed chamber opposite in the south chancel. Unusual for Compton, the console is attached and forms part of the north chancel casework. The specification reads:

As I was in Carlisle I thought I would play the hymn 'Stand up and bless the Lord' to the tune 'Carlisle'.

Many thanks to the church officials for kindly allowing me access to this fine Compton organ.

NOTE: this is purely my interest in order to make sure that these fine organs are archived forever and I do not make any monetary profit by this video being on dailymotion.
