A girl born without a nose or eyes gets ready for surgery.

Cassidy Hooper, a 16-year-old girl from Charlotte, North Carolina is thriving despite living with unimaginable physical challenges. Hooper was born without a nose or eyes.

Doctors don’t know why or how the defect happened but suspect it occurred during the first two weeks of gestation.

She currently attends a residential school for the blind. She also runs on the track team and qualified for a scholarship to the Charlotte Curling Club.

Cassidy states “Things always may be hard. But here's what I think: I don't need easy, I just need possible.”

She will receive a real nose by the end of the school year which will allow her to smell and breathe like everyone else.

Surgeons will attach bone and cartilage from the skull to her face and stretch skin flaps form another part of her body in the procedure. Cassidy doesn't let her hardships slow her down.

She hopes to study broadcasting and a local radio host recently gave her a chance. She states
“It was the first time and I actually did my own radio broadcast for an hour -- I took over. I have been listening to radio since I was younger, and I like how they do it.”
