A mother and son battle against each other for mayor.

Wendy and Randall Casey are going against each other for the new role as mayor in Dixmoor, Illinois.

Complicating matters is the fact that they are closely related as mother and son. They also live under the same roof, residing in the same home they both grew up in.

Mom is a community activist while Randall works as a cable technician. 45-year-old Wendy states “Both of us are in campaign mode right now. The boxing gloves are on. He's still my son and I love him, but he's my opponent. That's just politics. That's just the way it is.”

They have run against each other in the past, competing in a board of trustees election but both lost. Although Randall has been mostly quiet about the situation, Wendy claims the ordeal as taken a toll.

She says “It's hurting me. I miss the conversations we had, and we can't have those anymore.” The election is slated to take place next month and two other candidates will be on the ballot besides the Caseys.
