The Asian Film Awards kicked off last night in Hong Kong. The award show is now in its seventh year and celebrates what Asians love about cinema. For Michelle Yeoh, who was honoured with the Excellence in Asian Cinema award, the event is unique.

"I think it's the culture, it's this whole place. I don't really see ourselves as Asian film makers, we are really world class film makers. So, you know, I think what it is, is that whenever people get together for the love of the same thing, that's already something really special."
The Best Film Award went to "Mystery" directed by Lou Ye. It's about a man who leads a double life. One day his wife sees him leave a hotel with a young woman, and hours later this unknown associate of his is found dead.
The Best Actor gong went to Eddie Garcia, for his role in "Bwakaw" as a gay man in his seventies trying to come out.
