A fox found covered in an oily residue was given a full shave by Russian animal rights activist. The animal was found trapped in an oil-filled hole in the ground in Sakhalin, an island off the eastern coast of Russia. One of the activists have adopted the animal naming it Monya.
The island of Sakhalin, the largest in the Russian Federation, relies heavily on its oil and gas exports. Environmental groups have in recent years criticised oil producers in the area for polluting the environment.
