In covering the Boston Marathon bombing, CNN was first to the bottom. John King wrongly reported that investigators sought a "dark-skinned male."

The New York Post ran a photo of two brown-skinned spectators on its front page with the accompanying text "BAG MEN" "Feds seek these two pictured at Boston Marathon." When the Post realized the two men were innocent, editor Col Allan said in a statement: "We stand by our story. The image was emailed to law enforcement agencies yesterday afternoon."

The AP, Boston Globe and other media have also retracted inaccurate and anonymously sourced reports.
