Michael Kaiser: How Performing Arts Inspire Leadership
George Washington University School of Business - George Washington University
"The Arts" will explore modern civic leadership through the lens of special guest Michael Kaiser, president of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Called "the turnaround king," Kaiser has led numerous artistic and cultural organizations, including the American Ballet Theater, the Royal Opera House, and the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, out of stagnation and even financial crisis. Over his 12-year tenure at the Kennedy Center, he has transformed the institution from a regional arts center to a national treasure of the performing arts.Hosted by Dean Doug Guthrie, the event will explore the role of creative leaders in bringing together government, the private sector, and academic institutions to solve society's most intractable problems.
