Malcolm Shabazz, grandson of Malcolm X, has reportedly died in Mexico. San Diego Union Tribune reporter Sandra Dibble tweets, "Malcom (sic) X grandson Malcom (sic) Shabazz was beaten to death yesterday in Mexico City, according to Juan Ruiz, member of labor group Rumec."
Dibble later tweeted that the US State Department is aware of the death of a U.S. citizen in Mexico City but would not further comment at the request of family members.
Shabazz, who was the first male heir of Malcolm X, spent four years in prison following a manslaughter and arson conviction for a fire that killed his grandmother, Betty Shabazz.
Malcolm Shabazz was 28.
