Flash floods in southwestern China stranded five men in the centre of a gushing torrent on Thursday (May 9), state media reported.
The workers had been trying to cross a channel near the city of Leshan, Sichuan province, in trucks when water rose rapidly, official broadcaster CCTV reported.
The men climbed onto the roof of a mechanical digger while people on the bank tried to find a way to rescue them.
After several attempts to throw over a rope from the shore, one man used a fishing rod and cast over the rope which the men then attached to the arm of the digger.
A fire-fighter then pulled himself along the line to reach them, and each of the men was pulled over to safety.
