Malaysian troops backed by planes attack armed Filipino group

Malaysian security forces launched an offensive on Tuesday against nearly 200 Filipino gunmen holed up in Tanduao and nearby villages, in Sabah. The offensive aims to end the three-week occupation of that part of Borneo by the intruders, from the self-proclaimed Sulu Sultanate in the southern Philippines, that has left at least 27 people dead and sparked fears of broader insecurity in the resource-rich region.
