A teacher at Fitzalan High School in Cardiff, Wales, was dismissed for having had an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old student at her school.
The relationship started with the 33-year-old design teacher sending seductive photos of herself wearing a lacy black dress with a plunging neckline and black heels, via Facebook, to the boy while he was studying for his final exams.
The pair met for a study 'rendez-vous', according to what said in a disciplinary hearing, and after that, she drove him to her home in South Wales. According to the boy, he had sex with Horton there, then she dropped him off at his home before picking up her two young children.
Horton denies these allegations, claiming they only chatted for some time, then fell asleep together on the sofa. She admitted that her actions were inappropriate, but explained that she had been going through an emotionally difficult time after a bitter divorce, and took nothing more from the boy than 'the hand of friendship'.
In a statement submitted to the disciplinary hearing, Horton said 'He was very kind and listened. I was just talking about what was going on with my ex-husband. He made me feel better.'
The boy had been a student of Horton's, but wasn't, by a few days, by the time of the incident. He elected not to press charges against Horton for reasons of 'strict religious beliefs', but the disciplinary hearing found her guilty of misconduct and she was dismissed. She has been banned from teaching for two years.
