Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has been found dead in New York.

According to police sources, the 46-year-old was discovered in his Manhattan apartment on Sunday after a friend called the emergency services. He reportedly died of an apparent drug overdose.

Hoffman won a Best Actor Oscar for his 2005 portrayal of writer Truman Capote.

He also received three Academy Award
nominations as Best Supporting Actor.
