Ingredients
1 cup split pigeon peas (tuvar dal)
2 - 3 tbsp peanuts
1 inch piece of ginger
1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
A pinch of hing (asafoetida)
4 cups of water
For tempering
2 tsp of clarified butter (ghee)
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 inch of cinnamon
3 - 4 cloves
2 green chillies
5 - 6 curry leaves
1 tsp red chilli powder
Jaggery
4 - 5 kokam
Salt to taste
