Normal For My Age
by Barbara Lynn Terry
She looked at the way I was dressed,
And said that I was cute,
That experimenting was normal,
For my age.
Then she said that I shouldn't
Do it anymore because people
Would think bad things about me
That girls, boys just cannot be.
It didn't make any sense what she said,
And I did my best to be who I have to be
In this life of being a girl.
A life I didn't ask for.
But I will be me no matter what,
Or who says different, because
I just have to be this girl in my soul
So I can be happy, complete and whole.
After years and years of living as the girl I am,
I have found that living my life
Is normal;
for my age.
