If opposite bad is good
Where does that leave evil?
Those times un-ordinary
When the fabric unravels
And dark deeds have no equal.
Those times recorded and retold
Of agony and grief
And calamity and hatred of war
Often prolonged, or terrible and brief,
That cannot sit with good or bad
And just beggers belief.
But beneath the pall
Of dispersing light
Deeds of love and selflessness
Courage and sacrifice
Spark, flash and ignite
From an eternal glow
That which cannot be extinguished
And goes where darkness goes,
Darkness ready to absorb the light,
Light ready to expose the dark void.
But dark events get coverage
An imbalance mostly seen
While myriad events of love and kindness
Like photons shine unnoticed,
And great good things hard to explain
Perhaps fortune of randomness
Happen every moment, hidden on the main
Babes are born, the sick pull through
Accidents don’t occur contrary to circumstance
The lost are found despite the odds
A smile, thank you to a helping hand
A child’s “I love you”, a kiss goodbye
All deeds of warmth and lightness
Unreported because they are
What is right in the every day!
So what opposes the sad, sad dark?
Connections inexplicable
Nature’s unseen links reticular
‘Whisper heard from a raging storm
Ensnared by selfless reaching arms,
Weave flow ubiquitous, oblivious, inextricable,
A light that shines its essence
Manifestation of all things good;
Unquenchable beacon at its pinnacle
Easily statistical coincidence,
Or perhaps it is the miracle.
