This video lecture from Group VA and Group VIA Elements (F.Sc. second year Chemistry) covers the chemical reactions of nitrogen dioxide or nitrogen peroxide. The elements like phosphorus, potassium and carbon continue to burn because of the oxygen gas yielded as a result of decomposition at elevated temperatures. In the absence of air, the gas readily dissolves in water to give nitrous and nitric acid but in the presence of air, the former is produced only. The reaction with strong alkalies yields nitrites and nitrates of the respective metal. Find more e-learning material and educational video lectures in Urdu at maktab.pk.
