This video lecture from Group VA and Group VIA Elements (F.Sc. second year Chemistry) covers the chemical reactions of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide forms reddish brown nitrogen dioxide upon oxidation. It decomposes into nitrogen and oxygen gases at elevated temperatures. It gives nitrosyl compounds with halogens and is also utilized in the Ring test to confirm the presence of nitrates in compounds. Oxidation and reduction reactions of nitric oxide are also discussed.
