This video lecture from Group VA and Group VIA Elements (F.Sc. second year Chemistry) covers the oxidation reactions of metals with nitric acid. Metals such as gold, platinum and titanium donot react while iron, cobalt, nickel, chromium and aluminum are rendered passive by the formation of an oxide layer. Tungsten and uranium give their respective oxides. Magnesium, calcium and manganese give their nitrates with release of hydrogen gas. Copper forms cupric nitrate alongside nitric oxide with dilute acid and nitrogen dioxide with concentrated acid. Silver and mercury give nitric oxide and the respective nitrates with dilute acid. Zinc and tin give different products with different concentration level of the acid solution. Find more e-learning material and educational video lectures in Urdu at maktab.pk.
