Ecuador Boosts IT Investment and Internet Access

In an effort to diversify its economy, Ecuador is increasing its investment in information technology, democratizing Internet access, and increasing bandwidth. In 2012, 35.1% of the Ecuadoran population had Internet access; three years later, the figure has risen to 46.4%. To bring Internet access to distant and remote communities, the government has established 490 Infocenters, with plans to bring the number up to 782 by the end of the year. Cebadas, an agricultural community in the highlands is benefiting from this policy. Liz Scherffius reports on the scene. teleSUR
