Plumbers, welders and decorators work together to make a new sprinkler system's copper pipes disappear among the marble arches of the Great Hall of the Library of Congress. The Architect of the Capitol employs a staff of nearly 2,400 to maintain the 290-acre complex. About 770 of those employees come to work after the sun goes down.
