Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead on the bathroom floor of his Manhattan apartment on Sunday. New York Post reported that at least 70 glassine envelopes of heroin was later found throughout his apartment by police.

David Katz, a screenwriter and Hoffman's long-time friend, went to check on Hoffman after he failed to pick up his three children from their mother, costume designer Mimi O'Donnell. According to New York Post, Katz and Hoffman's personal assistant Isabella Wing-Davey broke into the apartment at 11:30 a.m. and found Hoffman's lifeless corpse on the floor. They called 911 after failing to resuscitate him with CPR.

According to New York Post, Hoffman was pronounced dead at 11:45 a.m and his body was removed from the apartment at 6:45 p.m. Several of his neighbors claim that they knew Hoffman had substance-abuse problems.

Hoffman's family released a statement, calling his death "tragic and sudden." According to CNN, law enforcement officials are currently tracking Hoffman's recent activities to determine where has he purchased the heroin. His death is believed to be accidental.
