Eleven tourists from Malaysia died Sunday in a bus crash in northern Thailand, officials said.
The bus, carrying 21 tourists and a driver, was coming down a mountain road around noon from Chiang Rai on the way to Chiang Mai when it went out of control, hitting several cars before flipping over, said police Col. Manote Sudsawat of the Doi Saket police station.
The bus was damaged beyond repair, he said, adding that the driver was one of the 11 injured survivors taken to the hospital.
Police initially identified the victims as Chinese, but later confirmed they were Malaysian, as did Doi Saket Hospital .
