This Is The First-ever Mercedes C-class Cabriolet (and Its C43 Amg Brother)

Amg Sport Is Dead, Long Live The C43 Amg Cabrio

Mercedes-benz Has Unveiled The First-ever, Long-awaited 2017 C-class Cabriolet At The Geneva International Motor Show. As A Budget Brother Of The E-class Cabrio, This Folding-top C-class Borrows Many Of The Same Open-air Amenities And Technology But Offers A Smaller, More Affordable Package.

The New C-class Cabrio Will Feature Mercedes' Neck-warming Airscarf System, Plus An Optional Aircap System To Help Prevent Ruffled Hair And Wind Noise Associated With The Open-air Experience. The Latter System Works By Extending A Panel Above The Windshield When The Top Is Down To Help Divert Air Around Passengers; It Is Part Of The "premium One” Options Package, And, Like Airscarf, Makes A Lot Of Sense If You Want A Convertible That Can Be Enjoyed A Few Extra Months Per Year.

In Its Base Form, The C300 Gets A 241-hp, 273-lb-ft 2.0-liter I4 Powerplant And Rear-wheel Drive, But You Can Option 4matic All-wheel Drive If You Wish -- Which Should Give The Entry-level Mercedes Convertible A Fighting Chance In Snowy Climates. The Airmatic Air Suspension Is Likewise Optional.

A Nine-speed Automatic Transmission, However, Is Mandatory.

Mercedes Also Used The Occasion To Announce The 2017 C43 Amg Cabriolet, An Entry-level Amg Offering That Fits Into The Slot That Might Have Previously Been Filled By Something From The Company's Now-deceased Amg Sport Lineup.

In Amg Trim, The C-class Cabrio’s Twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter Engine, Churning Out 362 Hp And 384 Lb-ft Of Torque, Can Rocket The Car From A Dead Stop To 60 Mph In 4.7 Seconds. The 9g-tronic Auto Transmission Feeds Power From The Engine To The Standard 4matic All-wheel-drive System. Other Changes From The Base C-class Include A More Aggressive Fascia, Amg Ride Control Adaptive Damping And Minor Updates Throughout To Help C-class Handle The Power.

No Word On Price For Either, But We Can’t Imagine A Base C300 Cabrio Going For Too Much More Than Its Coupe Counterpart. Pricing Will Be Available Closer To The C-class Cabrio’s Late-summer Launch. For The C43 Amg, We’ll Have To Wait Even Longer: It's Slated To Hit The Streets This Fall.
