Tempers flared amongst journalists as they jostled to get closer to expelled North Korean ambassador Kang Chol, resulting in vulgarities being hurled and one broken microphone.

He was escorted by some 15 policemen and trailed by a large number of journalists, both local and foreign as he made his way to a special lounge.

Kang and his family boarded a flight to Beijing at 6.25pm.
