The Department of Defense on August 11 published video showing the take-off on a training mission of a B-1 bomber from Andersen Air Force Base in Guam. The bombers form part of a “continuous bomber presence” in the Pacific.
On August 10 the US Pacific Command tweeted images of its aircraft, saying it was ready for combat “if called upon to do so,” as retweeted by US President Donald Trump a day later.
The tweet follows days of rising tensions between the US and North Korea, with Trump warning to rain down “fire and fury” if North Korea continued a series of nuclear and missile technology tests. North Korea in turn announced a plan to target the US territory of Guam.
