The father of a young Aboriginal man who died in custody sat in silent reflection on November 25 ahead of a peaceful protest demanding answers for his death.

Tane Chatfield, 22, was found dead at Tamworth Correctional Centre on September 22. Authorities said he took his own life, but his family have continued searching for answer. His family have inquired why he was left alone in his cell and why they were not notified when he was taken to the hospital the night before his death.

This video shows Chatfield’s father, Colin, sitting in contemplation ahead of the protest. The camera then pans around handwritten signs. “Death in custody/save our mob” reads one. “We want the truth! Justice 4 Tane/C’mon Australia” read another.
