Before Makar Sankranti, the festival of 'Lohri' is celebrated with great fanfare in Punjab, Haryana and neighboring North Indian states. Lohri has special significance for the Punjabis. On Lohri, during evening, fire is lit from the collected wood and people danced around the fire and rendered the offerings of ravdis, peanuts, peeled, maize in the fire.
