Kata Beach is a well-known beach south of Patong on the island of Phuket, Thailand.

Kata Beach is for many, along with Nai Harn Beach, the best location for a relaxing holiday with the entire family while still within easy access to plenty of evening entertainment venues. You could spend three weeks around and you would still not have enough time to go through all the possible dining experiences on offer, from seafood restaurants, pizzerias to steak houses and more. The "after beach" venues in Kata are somehow as popular as the beach itself.

Kata can be divided roughly into two areas: coming from nearby Karon to the north you'll get to the so-called Kata Center; you keep on moving and you'll find Kata South. The beach itself attracts surfers in the green season from May to October with its breaking waves, and becomes alive with holidaymakers from all over the world from November to April.

Kata Beach is very popular with families, nice for early morning walks, great for swimming, snorkeling and relaxing in the sun, go parasailing and/or just getting thrown in the water while trying to stay on a big inflated banana shaped floating device. You can also show your athleticism and participate in a game of “sepak takraw” with the locals: basically a “kick volleyball” game played with a wicker ball where you can use any part of your body except your hands!..
Worth a try!..

The Kata bay is the venue for the renowned Phuket King’s Cup Regatta, one of Asia’s biggest and most popular regatta in Asia. The race is held at Kata Beach Resort and Spa every year since 1987 around the late King birthday on the 6th of December. It hosts international racing classes with over 150 boats and 1500+ sailors competing for some of the most prestigious sailing trophies, bestowed by His Majesty the King of Thailand.

There is also a King's Cup Sepak Takraw World Championship which has been held every year since 1985.
If you have the chance to be there when this competition happens, please make sure to drink a lot of water because dehydration is no fun.

Take a break and get yourself something refreshing from the nearby 7-eleven or local mini-marts!
