A 5.9-magnitude earthquake brought more destruction to Indonesia on Thursday, August 9, four days after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake shook the area of Lombok.

At least 259 people were had died by Thursday as a result of both earthquakes, with that number expected to rise, according to Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, the spokesman for the Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB)..
The first earthquake struck on Sunday, August 5, and was followed by more than 391 aftershocks by Thursday, Sutopo said. More than 270,000 people had been displaced, including more than 158,000 in Lombok Utara District alone.
