Will the CBI probe former Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa's role in illegal mining? The Supreme Court will decide on the matter today.It will hear the Central Empowered Committee's recommendation of a probe by an independent agency like the CBI on Yeddyurappa's alleged role in illegal mining.The hearing was postponed last monday as the concerned judges were engaged in another case. The Supreme Court-appointed Central Empowered Committee had recommended a CBI probe into the charges that Yeddyurappa's kin received kickbacks from mining companies in return of favours when he was the chief minister. Yeddyurappa has been accused of illegally denotifying land in favour of these companies in return of donations to the firms managed by his relatives. Further, the CEC has pointed out Yeddyurappa's alleged role in illegal export of iron ore and transfer of many police officers to the Lokayukta.
