As part of fresh agitation in favor of Gorkhaland people in Darjeeling are observing "ghar bhitore janta" today. This call was made by the newly formed Gorkhaland Joint action committee. Although previously scheduled for 5 days, it is now restricted to only Monday.

Many say, in a clever move Bimal Gurung added a spin to the janta curfew by renaming it. This after the Calcutta high court's recent ruling said a janta curfew is illegal. Schools and colleges are shut and so are the shops. However army schools, courts, and other government offices are spared.

After 15 days of indefinite strike a destination that thrives on tea, timber and tourism, has come to a standstill.
