Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the government will need to hold a meeting before it could declare a state of emergency in Pasir Gudang after a suspected chemical leak last week left more than 200 people seeking medical attention for poisoning.
Earlier today, Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim urged the Dewan Rakyat to debate the issue as an emergency motion.
A majority of those being treated are children and teachers.
