A warplane attacked Mitiga airport in Tripoli on Monday as fighting between rival forces has escalated in Libya.
The airport was closed after it was hit in an airstrike launched by Haftar's Libyan National Army.
The closure left Misrata airport, 200 kilometers to the east down the coast, as the closest option for Tripoli residents.
This fighting also threatens to disrupt oil supplies, fuel migration to Europe and wreck UN plans for an election to end rivalries between the country's forces in the east and west.
